Why I Left
the Scouts is the third collection of poems and monologues
to have stemmed from the unusual imagination of Steve Morris
and if you haven’t yet experienced his unique style
of story telling, you’re in for a treat.
There’s lots of new scribblings which certainly have
that familiar northern slant, but once again Steve’s
tales manage to stay well clear of the old tin bath, the
whippet and the Woodbine. Instead, we are allowed a peek
into some very private, and very peculiar, worlds.
We meet the young husband who can’t quite keep up
with his wife’s ‘demands’ and loses her
in a way he couldn’t possibly have predicted. There’s
the tale of a middle-aged sad bloke who hopes Santa will
bring him a woman and there’s the story of Miss Fishwick’s
first foray into the world of ‘movies’.
And we’re introduced to the Boy Scout who unexpectedly
gets an opportunity to obtain his photography badge and
shares his candid snap with the entire village.
If, however, you’re already a fan of Steve’s
stories, what are you waiting for? This lot’s just
as downright bl**dy funny as the last. Dive in and enjoy!
