Gary Hogg, born fifty years ago on Tyneside, spent twenty
years in the motor trade developing his storytelling skills
before going on to study film production. A parallel career
in music saw Gary as a singer/songwriter as well as playing
outside-left with ceilidh bands.
Despite
being bred and buttered on a modern council estate near
the DSS at Longbenton, he developed an early affinity with
the mills, gasworks and cobbled streets that surrounded
his Nanna’s house in the North West and has set most
of his stories with this more romantic backdrop.
A
keen observer of life’s absurdities and quick-witted
in a somewhat droll style, Gary found he could always think
of something far better to say after-the-event and decided
to write things down. He also discovered that other people
told his stories better than him - as his CDs by Bernard
Wrigley and John Woodvine will testify.
