Piscatorial Pastime

Greatrex Newman

Around the shores of England
With hook and line and bait,
Beside canals and rivers
And on sea-side piers they wait.
In ev'ry kind of weather ,
They just sit and freeze, outside -
The Fishermen of England
Should all be certified.

To save their plight
When fish don't bite,
A simple plot they hatch:
They call at some fish-monger's shop
And then take home their 'catch.'
Then in their beds, with sleepy heads,
As blissful hours go by -
The Fishermen of England
All lie! And lie! And LIE!

With patience monumental
Quite half their lives they spend
In silent solemn solitude,
Completely'round the bend.'
Unlucky, but undaunted,
Undismayed and undeterred -
The Fishermen of England
The Band of Hope deferred!
