Sir Ralph Pudsay
In the village church in Bolton-by-Bowland is the remarkable tomb of Sir Ralph Pudsay, who supervised the church's rebuilding in 1464.

Made from black Craven limestone, the top of the tomb depicts Sir Ralph, his three wives and his twenty-five children.

In the folds of each ladies dress is inscribed a numeral indicating the number of children that she bore to Sir Ralph. Matilda, produced two offspring, Margaret six and third wife Edwina gave birth to a staggering seventeen children.

This lovely church has many other items of interest, including pews dated 1694 (some have the initials of their first owner), a studded door dated 1705 and an octagonal font from the early 16th century.
