The
Scotch Piper Inn
Sited
on the A567, nine miles from Liverpool and eleven miles from
Southport stands The Scotch Piper, the oldest inn in Lancashire.
Built
around an oak tree in the 14th century and known as 'The Royal
Oak', until, as legend has it, an injured highland piper from
the 1745 rebellion took refuge at the inn. Eventually, he
married the innkeeper's daughter and in his honour the pub
was re-named.
A visit to this traditional thatched inn is almost like a
step back into the past as it retains many of its original
structural features.
