The Ribble Way

The Ribble Way is a 70 mile-long footpath following the River Ribble and its valley from the sea to its source. The footpath spans the counties of Lancashire and North Yorkshire and is divided into 7 sections each approximately 10 miles long. Four sections lie within Lancashire following the rivers middle and lower reaches.

The Ribble Way begins at Longton on the salt marshes of the estuary and passes through the flat environment to the west of Preston and into the lush fertile plains between Preston and Clitheroe. The footpath then encounters the higher ground towards the county border and continues to the source of the River Ribble on the Yorkshire fells.

The official start of the walk is The Dolphin Inn, Longton, Preston and the end is Gavel Gap high on the North Yorkshire Moors.
