The
Abram Colliery Band
It was in 1919 that the Abram
Coal Company took the decision to form a brass band. The
band remained in existence under that name until 1937
when it became the Bickershaw Colliery Band, this band
being, in the opinion of many, one of the finest of that
period and perhaps of all time. The Bickershaw Band became
a superb combination of leading brass instrumentalists
right up to its untimely demise following the nationalisation
of the coal industry in 1947.
